What would cause a plant growing along a fence line to wrap its stems through and around the fence as it grows ?

I don't know if you want the full details or something. (cause I'm not learning this but... for a simple answer it wants sunlight cause to go through photosynthesis the plant needs the following...      Water, Co2, sunlight
