5x + 13 = -7
-13           -13
5x = -20
divide by 5 
x = -4

There is no solution. The 'l l' bars in the equation means absolute value. Basically absolute value is the positive value of whatever '5x+13'.

In short   l 5x+13 l has to be a positive number.

Since -7 is a negative number, l 5x+13 l can never be equal to it.
