The president appoints a his own cabinet for his administration as well as our appointed officials such as judges that operate on different circuits. The president has to power to appoint officials who then go on to be approved by congress in a senate committee. Since a president has the power to appoint them, he in turn has the power to fire those whom he or a predecessor appointed. It's the president's role to maintain the positions of appointments since they are unelected officials. The american people elect a president with the hope that he will apoint like-minded qualified people into the post.

Hope this helps!
