                                   I2 + 2KCl  ===> 2KI + Cl2
Oxidation number     0    +2  -2           2 -2     0
 

The element that decreases its oxidation number is I. It decreases from 0 to -2. The oxidation number of K remains the same, and Cl increases its oxidation number
