The terms that best apply to Marlowe's play are motif, juxtaposition, and internal conflict. Faustus's internal conflict is of great importance to the course of the play. His confused state of mind makes him  momentarily doubt. "The Tragic History of Doctor Faustus" can be considered a morality play. The internal conflict of Faustus serves the purpose of making the audience grasp the idea of repentment, which will grant him forgiveness and not the wrath of God, from the infamous doctor. Mephastophilis at times seems to be preventing him from making the decision of accepting the accursed power. The two angels talking to Faustus while Mephastophilis awaits his answer take place simultaneously, this tecnique is called juxtaposition.
