Federalists were the group that favored the new Constitution while Anti-Federalists were those who did not want to ratify the new Constitution. The key reason some people opposed the Constitution was because of a lack of a Bill of Rights that detail the rights that the people possess that cannot be tampered with by the government. The Federalists, recognizing this, decided to amend in a Bill of Rights should the Constitution be ratified. This resolved the problem and the Constitution was ratified by the needed majority.
