most americans feel that the vietnam war was lost due to the press. the government was unable to interfere with the media to help themselves. this showed  the president did not communicate effectively with the media to get what he wanted to have. thank you for this question.

Some believe that media play an important role to defeat the USA in the Vietnam war. As reports from the field became accessible to the citizen's Public opinion turned against the USA's involvement. Battles scenes were shown daily on the news channels. Due to it caused a first amendment debate.

What was the role of the USA in the Vietnam war?

North Vietnam was a communist nation and South Vietnam was an ally of the USA. When war broke out between North and South Vietnam. The USA was scared that communism could spread in South Vietnam and later in the rest of Asia.

The United state of America started to provide arms and ammunition, economic and military assistance to South Vietnam. Media coverage of the Vietnam war caused the USA to lose the citizen's support of the war and changed the opinion of the citizen.

Therefore the Media coverage of the Vietnam war set off a first amendment debate.
