ampa is an American city, seat of Hillsborough County on the west coast of the state of Florida. It is located about 200 miles (300 km) northwest of Miami on Tampa Bay. Discovered in the early 16th century by the Spanish, the city was founded around Fort Brooke and boomed after the discovery of phosphate in 1883.
It is the third most populated city in Florida after Jacksonville and Miami. It is both a port city and a resort town. The four-county Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater metropolitan area (MSA) has a population of approximately 2.7 million.
