Global Warming would most likely be the answer (even though schools really should be careful about teaching it)
The ecology students hypothesized that the most likely reason for this change in sea level and therefore habitat was global warming.
Global warming is the gradual increase in the earth’s average atmospheric temperature. Global warming is caused by the release of high levels of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide, ozone, methane and nitrous oxide) in the atmosphere which occurs as a result of human activities such as deforestation and combustion of fossil fuels. Global warming influences the climate by making the globe hotter. It warms the surface of water bodies, changes (increase) the sea level as a result of thermal expansion of water and dries out already arid regions.
