Respuesta :

The correct answer is - c. Cuba.

When Fidel Castro took over Cuba and made it a communist country, the United States were right to be displeased and scared by that move, especially that the Soviet Union very soon became the closest friend, supporter, and defender of the Caribbean nation.

The Soviet Union was the arch enemy of the United States, and since the tension was so big between the two countries, and they were constantly threatening to each other with nuclear weapons, the Soviet Union decided to set missiles in Cuba. Cuba being so close to the United States, meant that any place can be destroyed without any problem.

The tension at those moments was so big, that the world was just one decision away from another, much more terrifying and devastating World War.

Further explanation

Less than 20 years after the end of World War II, the world fell into the third disaster that more serious than the two previous ones, a nuclear war.

This crisis took place in the island of Cuba, an ally of the USSR, which was led by the communist dictator Fidel Castro. The United States did not agree that an American country was adopting this political system and have tried to bring down the new government.

In 1961, they sent Cuban soldiers whom they had trained and armed to attack Castro, but the dictator's soldiers defeated them without much difficulty. In 1962, afraid that the Americans will try again to invade Cuba, the USSR and its leader, Nikita Khrushchev, sent the troops, submarines, and missiles to defend the Caribbean island.

The United States noticed all its missiles as well as launching ramps, so they decided to send boats to Cuba to prevent more Russian soldiers from joining their compatriots. The Russians and the Americans met at sea and were close to fighting each other. Fortunately, their presidents Kennedy and Krushchev managed to sign an agreement. The USSR and the United States agreed to withdraw their missiles from Cuba and Turkey.
