The answers are procedural and semantic memory. Knowledge of how to perform different skills and actions is called procedural memory, while knowledge of facts, concepts, and ideas is called semantic memory.
EXPLANATION
Procedural memory is the memory that is focusing on recalling the habit of doing something. Doing swimming, cycling, or reading, are examples of procedural memory. It does not require conscious thought, but it’s in our unconscious mind. We unconsciously learn to do things through practice and repetition.
For example, language is a procedural memory because we learn it unconsciously through practice. It is a repetitive process of learning for language. We learn to use correct grammar and syntax through daily life.
Meanwhile, semantic memory consists of concepts, meanings, and facts from the result of past learning. Semantic memory is learned through the conscious mind. It is different from procedural memory since it is through the unconscious mind. Semantic memory is related to concepts, such as mathematics, science, etc. It is also the memory that includes facts. When hearing facts about things around us, it is eventually kept as semantic memory.
There is also another kind of memory, called episodic memory. It is the kind of memory to remember parts and moments of our lives. This memory includes personal experiences in our past. For example, if we are remembering that time when we celebrate our 17th birthday, then we are using episodic memory.
