AB is the melting point of the substance. It takes time for the molecules to gain enough kinetic energy to change from solid to liquid state. BC is when the substance is in liquid form, the temperature gradually rises until it reaches it's boiling point
changes of phase are happening. solid to liquid (melting) or liquid to vapour (boiling). most phase changes take place at constant temperature, and the term "latent heat" is often used to describe how something can be put over a bunsen burner and have heat going into it, but its temp doesn't rise. No but it is melting or it is boiling depending on what it is.
