Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter—to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

The statement that most accurately analyzes the aesthetic impact of the excerpt is:

C. By summing up the idea that motivated Gatsby, the author leaves the reader feeling beaten but determined to continue.

The green light in Gatsby, represented hope. Therefore, the green light can be seen as the hope and pursue of the American Dream*. Nevertheless, pursing the Dream is not easy and it requires effort just like paddling a boat against the current. There are obstacles that make it hard for the Dream to come through. The writer shows the reader that pursing the Dream requires effort but is not impossible, there is hope.

*American Dream: is an idea in which freedom allows for upward social mobility, prosperity and success through hard work.
