France in my oppinion , France still held a grudge against Germany for both losing the war with the Prussians forty years earlier and the territory they subsequently lost along with it. Not to mentition the treaty with Russia made the situation worse after the assination of Franz Ferdinand getting involved after Russia was already backing Serbia and Germany backing Austria-hungry France in my opinion had no real reason to be involved in an Eastern European conflict. Their alliance with Russia dragged the war to west instead of a smaller more contained conflict in Eastern Europe making the Great War as tragic as it became
