occurs in the "fifth stage" when sleepers return to stage 1 again. Although REM sleep is a relatively deep stage of sleep, EEG activity is dominated by high-frequency beta waves that resemble those observed when people are alert and awake. Heart rate rises, breathing becomes rapid, and there is genital arousal (even if the dream is not sexual) Brain's motor cortex is active but the brainstem blocks the messages, leaving the body relaxed. The description that is given is about the fifth stage of sleep usually called as the REM sleep stage.

We as humans experience different stages of sleep while we go to sleep. There are usually five stages of sleep. They are wake, N1, N2, N3 and REM sleep stages. The wake stage is when we are just lying and we are state of consciousness. The stages from N1 to N3 are Non rapid eye movement stages and in these stages we are in deep sleep. We are in state of partial unconsciousness and at last is the stage of Rapid eye movement. In this stage our eye moves but it don't sends any signal to the brain. It is this stage when we dream while sleeping.
