By setting deadlines, people try to accomplish their goals in a limited amount of time. A goal is akin to a purpose or aim, the anticipated outcome that directs behavior, or an end, which is a thing, whether it be a tangible thing or an abstract thing, that has inherent worth. Several elements must come together for objectives and performance to be positively correlated. First, the person must be dedicated to the objective and view it as vital. Setting goals with involvement can boost performance, but participation by itself doesn't necessarily boost performance.
