Solstice happens when the sun’s apex is at its furthest point in the equator. It will reach the northernmost part of the North Pole and tilts directly towards the sun at about 23.4 degrees. Because of the direction of earth towards the sun, the northern hemisphere experiences longer spring and summer and therefore longer daylight hours.
