The Second Republic develops in two clearly differentiated stages.:
From February to April 23, 1848, date of the first elections to the National Assembly, the provisional government of the Republic is made up of moderate republicans (Alphonse de Lamartine, Garnier-Pagès, Arago, Crémieux, Marie), of radicals (Ledru -Rollin, Marrast, Flocon) and socialists (Louis Blanc and Albert). In just two months, they take a series of unprecedented political and social measures: it is the so-called "Social and Democratic Republic".
In the general elections, the first with universal masculine suffrage, the weight of the peasant vote, traditionally dominated by the most conservative classes, gives national politics a clear turn to the right. Radicals and Socialists are separated from a government reduced to five members: Arago, Lamartine, Ledru-Rollin, Marie and Garnier-Pagès. The first unpopular measures adopted without delay provoke protest demonstrations in Paris from 23 to 26 June 1848. Workers quickly take to the streets and set up barricades. The state of siege is declared and the revolt is harshly repressed by General Cavaignac. They are known as the "June Days", and mark the transition without transition to a conservative and authoritarian republic.
France’s “Second Republic” divided from the start as Liberals wanted moderate reform whereas socialists wanted far-reaching social changes.
Further Explanation:
The France Second Republic was a short term republican government established in 1848 under the commandership of Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte and lasted for around three years. Though Napoleon wanted to regain the initial pride of France but couldn’t do so because of internal civil war and threat of external attack.
The “Franco-Persian war” of 1870 was the conflict in the middle of the ‘Second French Republic’ and the ‘German confederation’ led by Prussia. The war lasted from July 19th, 1870 to January 28th, 1871. The war took place because of the Prussian ‘ambition of annexation’ and French ‘fear’ of shifting of ‘balance’ in the ‘supremacy of Europe’. French Parliament declared the war on July 16th, 1870 while the ‘Prussians’ declared it after three days. The “German” mobilized their troops more efficiently than the French and led a number of victories in the “eastern part” of France. After that, “Emperor Napoleon III” was taken into custody after the demise of the “Second Empire”.
