In the context of this poetry, love transforms us since it has the potential to physically and symbolically drive us insane.

A person in love has the potential to literally and symbolically "lose his mind." In the Raven, the protagonist is so deeply in love that when he loses his beloved, he spirals out of control. Realizing he won't ever see his sweetheart again, he is plagued by his own thoughts.

Like The Raven, who views his lover as an angel, or Romeo and Juliet, where Romeo sees Juliet as a Sun, everyone perceives our loved one as something beautiful or from another planet.

However, when this love is not returned or a tragedy strikes, like in these two works, it might cause us to fall to our own demise.
