Write a short note on nationalism.
A movement and ideology known as nationalism contends that the state and the nation should coexist. In general, nationalism strives to advance the interests of a particular nation (i.e., a group of people), particularly with the goal of establishing and preserving the nation's sovereignty (i.e., self-governance) over its native territory. According to nationalism, a nation is the only legitimate source of political authority, each nation should be allowed to rule itself without outside interference (self-determination), and a nation is the best and most natural foundation for a polity.
It further aims to create and preserve a single national identity based on a variety of societal traits that are shared, such as culture, ethnicity, geography, language, politics (or the government), religion, traditions, and the conviction in a single shared history, as well as to foster national unity or solidarity. Thus, nationalism aims to uphold and advance a country's traditional culture. Different "nations" are defined differently, which results in various nationalistic ideologies. Civic nationalism and ethnic nationalism are the two main types that differ from each other.
