Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, or GEACPS, was a concept that was created in the Japanese Empire and spread to the Asian populations that it conquered from 1931 to 1945.
Its avowed goal was to create an independent Asian people and state bloc that would be governed by the Japanese and free from the influence of Western countries. Foreign Minister Yosuke Matsuoka first broached the subject in a radio address on August 1, 1940.
Depending on the organization and government agency involved, the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere's goals and actual implementation differed greatly.
