It was common for people to run for public office in order to get rich. A public trust is a public office. A leadership or service role with public accountability, particularly in the government.

They create and deliver public programs and services, contribute to policy formation, and give decision-makers recommendations based on facts. Public officials and staff are required to always be answerable to the public, behave with patriotism and justice, and lead humble lifestyles while serving them with the utmost responsibility, integrity, devotion, and efficiency.
