Jesus used the parable of the Good Samaritan as an example of love for those who may not be our friends.
Jesus was asked to confirm what he meant by the word “neighbor”. It was then that he told the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), to explain that people should love everyone, including their enemies.
The central message of this parable is to be ready for Christ's return. Jesus said that no one knows the day or the hour when the end will come, only the heavenly Father knows. Jesus asks his disciples to be vigilant in their walk with the Lord and to be ready at all times for the second coming of Christ.
In the Christian tradition, the seven heavenly virtues combine the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance and strength with the three theological virtues of faith, hope and charity. The seven capital virtues, also called contrary or reparative virtues, are those which oppose the seven deadly sins.
