What are sweat glands?
- Exocrine glands are found all over the surface of the body and produce perspiration.
- They're also known as sudoriparous or sudoriferous glands. The Latin word "sudor," which means "sweat," is the source of these names.
Two different types of sweat glands exist:
- All over the body, eccrine glands release a watery substance that cools the skin.
- Armpits and the perianal region are the principal locations for apocrine sweat glands, which release a more viscous, pungent substance.
- Although these two varieties of glands have a number of histological differences, they do have a similar overall structure.
- They both have secretory and duct (excretory) segments, in other words.
