Who was Cesar Chavez?

Cesar Chavez, a great American hero, was a civil rights, Latino, and agricultural labour leader; a deeply devout and spiritual man; a community organiser and entrepreneur; a proponent of militant peaceful social change; and a warrior for the environment and customer rights.

During the Great Depression, his family Lost their land and became migrant agricultural labourers when he was 11 years old. Cesar dropped out of school after the grade 8 and went to work in the fields full-time to support his family. Cesar spent his childhood and adolescence travelling the migrant streams of California, labouring in fields, orchards, and vineyards and witnessing the difficulties and inequities of agricultural worker life.

He is most famous for his work in the 60s and 70s when he organized strikes and boycotts against working conditions on farms and plantations.
