The technique of reading the information that individuals have marked on surveys, tests, and other paper documents is known as optical mark recognition (sometimes known as optical mark reading or OMR).
OMR is used to read multiple choice exam papers that have coloured regions for the multiple choice questions. A scanner that beams a light upon a form is a common feature of OMR devices. The instrument then examines the light's contrasting reflectance at various points on the form. Because the black markings on the form reflected less light than the empty spaces, it will be able to see them.
Transoptic paper-printed forms are used by some OMR devices. The quantity of light that passes through all the paper can then be measured using the apparatus.
