The immediate cause of the war was the capture of King Ferdinand VII of Spain in France by Napoleon, who invaded the peninsula. This was the sudden and unexpected removal of Latin American revolutions  and many Creoles feared Napoleon's invasion of America

Latin American revolutions began with the conquest of the people of Spain establishes colonies in America. Creoles and mestizos are dissatisfied with Spanish rule. In the Latin American Revolution, almost all Spanish colonies, the Portuguese colony of Brazil and the French colony of Haiti fought for independence.  Latin America was arguably one of the world's most "revolutionary" regions of the 20th century and many Creoles feared Napoleon's invasion of America.
