The term of the Senate's members is six years in Pakistan, however it is not subject to dissolution. Every three years, half of the Senate's members leave office and are replaced by newly elected members.
In the next Senate elections, each of the four provincial legislatures will choose 23 senators from their respective provinces, including 14 general seats, 4 seats designated for technocrats, including ulemas, 4 seats designated for women, and 1 seat designated for non-Muslims. The Senate's job in Pakistan is to foster national unity and peace and allay the concerns of the smaller provinces about any province gaining control of the National Assembly due to its majority.
