A hiker circled the base of the mountain in 6.5 hours and estimated the distance around the mountain to be approximately 16 miles. The stranded hikers had maintained contact with base camp with a two-way radio. Though they hiked more than 20 miles, they estimated that the straight-line distance up the mountain was about 20,000 feet.
