Rain forests to grasslands and desert scrub. It ranges from thick trees of the rain forest to mosses of the tundra.

An area with towering, largely evergreen trees and a lot of rainfall is called a rainforest.

At least 70 million years have passed since some rainforests first appeared on Earth, making them the oldest living ecosystems on the planet. Despite only making up 6% of the surface of the planet, they are highly complex and diverse, supporting more than half of the plant and animal species in the world. On every continent but Antarctica, this causes rainforests to flourish. The largest rainforests on Earth are located around the Congo River in Africa and the Amazon River in South America. These rainforests are incredibly dense with flora and fauna; a 10-square-kilometer (4-square-mile) patch of land may contain as many as 1,500 flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 400 species of birds, and 150 species of butterflies.
