In the 1630 Roger Williams began to question if the puritan religion was too harsh and began to make claims that king and the puritans
committed a lie and a sin by not buying the land from Native Americans. Roger Williams was born December 21, 1604 in London. he worked briefly as a chaplain before embracing puritanism.
Williams belived that preventing error in religion was impossoible, for it required people to interpret Gods law, and people would inevitably. he therefore concluded that government must remove itself from anything that touched upon human beings relationship with God.
Williams also belived that the magistrates had no jurisdiction over the consciences and souls of people, and he further denied the validity of oaths when oaths were the most solemn of underkings at that time. he also condemned prayer offered in company with those who were not sufficiantly devout but perhaps most seriously ,Williams declared that the crown had no right to take the lands of Native Americans without adequately compensating the indians for the territory.
