Phase II - Response focuses on the prioritization of forces to deploy for mission task.

The Phase II response, which involves the expression of over 200 genes and the suppression of several dozen others, is an evolutionarily conserved adaptation to a wide range of stressors, including ROS, xenobiotics, and electrophiles. The majority of the cellular anti-oxidant and detoxification reducing agents, such as glutathione (GSH), thioredoxin (Trx), and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, are produced, used, and/or recycled by the triggered genes (NADPH). The transcription factor NRF2 binds to the antioxidant response element (ARE) in these gene promoters and promotes the expression of these genes, which primarily helps to induce the Phase II response.
