For instance, there are two factors and each has two levels in the classic two× two-factorial design. To develop a design with four experimental conditions, the two elements are crossed, that is, all possible combinations of their levels are generated. Generally speaking, factorial designs can have two or more levels and k up to two components.
A full factorial experiment would include 2 ×2× 2 ×2 = 16 experimental situations if it used four two-level variables, as in Bolger and Amarel's (2007) work.
