Convert the mixed number into an improper fraction
9/4+8/3
Multiply until you have the same common denominator
27/12+32/12
Add the numerators but NOT the denominators
Final Answer: 59/12 or 4 11/12 *Both answers are equivalent to each other.

First, you would convert 8/3 to 2 2/3. Then, you would convert 2/3 and 1/4 to 12ths  and 2/3= 8/12 and 1/4=3/12. Finally, you add them all.   8/12+3/12=11/12
2+2=4   4+11/12=  4 11/12
