In demography, the annual growth rate takes into account the increase in population in a given year with respect to the total population and is affected by the birth rates, death rates, and immigration rates, as well as for the age distribution of the population.

To calculate the annual growth rate we use the following formula:

[tex]\text{ b - d + m}[/tex]

Where b is the birth rate, d is the death rate, and m is the net migration rate. And then you convert that to a percentage taking into account the units of the rates.

For 1990, the annual growth rate would be calculated as follows:

[tex]\begin{gathered} \text{ 31 - 9 + 6 = 28 } \\ \frac{28}{1000}\text{ }\ast\text{ 100 = 2.8} \end{gathered}[/tex]

So the growth rate for 1990 would be 2.8 %

For 2010 it would be:

[tex]\begin{gathered} \text{ 25 - 5 + 0 = 20} \\ \frac{20}{1000}\ast\text{ 100 = 2} \end{gathered}[/tex]

So the estimated growth rate for 2010 would be 2%.
