Nick has conflicting and ambivalent feelings about Gatsby and his tale. However, he also romanticises and admires Gatsby, describing this same events of the novel in an elegiac and nostalgic tone.

Then all of a sudden, he learns about Mr Gatsby, He somehow identifies his enigmatic neighbor, who is loved by everyone, in the night on an arbitrary day. He was well known in society because he was attractive, immensely secretive, and had accomplished many amazing feats. He stood for a young, successful man in the most prosperous setting imaginable.
