$\log _x(\frac{1}{4})=-\frac{1}{2}$$\frac{1}{4}=x^{-\frac{1}{2}}$$\frac{1}{4}=\frac{1}{x^{\frac{1}{2}}}$$x^{\frac{1}{2}}=4$$x=2$
