an evening flight had six less than twice the number of passengers that a morning flight had if the total number of passengers on both sides was 753 how many were on the morning flight

Respuesta :

we write teo equations for each statement

an evening flight had six less than twice the number of passengers that a morning flight

[tex]e=2m-6[/tex]

the total number of passengers on both sides was 753

[tex]e+m=753[/tex]

where e is the passengers on evening flight and m the passengers on morning flight

we will solve two equations with two unknowns

[tex]\begin{gathered} e=2m-6 \\ e+m=753 \end{gathered}[/tex]

we will use the substitution method

we wiil replace the value of e from the first equation on the second

[tex]\begin{gathered} e+m=753 \\ (2m-6)+m=753 \end{gathered}[/tex]

now solve for m

[tex]\begin{gathered} 2m-6+m=753 \\ 3m-6=753 \\ 3m=753+6 \\ m=\frac{759}{3} \\ \\ m=253 \end{gathered}[/tex]

the morning flight had 253 passengers
