The expresion for the area of the patio is:

[tex]\frac{1}{4}s^2[/tex]

Where s = side lenght of the yards in feets

Then we replace s = 12ft:

[tex]\frac{1}{4}(12ft)^2=\frac{1}{4}144ft^2=36ft^2[/tex]

Then the area of the patio is 36ft²
