Law of reflectionLight reflects from surfaces in such a way that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. Both angles are measured from the normal line perpendicular to the reflecting surface, as shown in the diagram:
Law of refraction (Snell's Law)
Light is refracted when it travels through the frontier between two media. If the medium 1 has an index of refraction n₁ and the medium 2 has an index of refraction n₂, then the angle of incidence θ₁ and the angle of refraction θ₂ satisfy the following equation:
