step 1

multiply the coeffiecients with the brackets and the proceed to simplfy

[tex]\begin{gathered} 3(x+4)=2(x-6) \\ 3x+12=2x-12 \end{gathered}[/tex]

step 2

collect like terms

[tex]\begin{gathered} 3x-2x=-12-12 \\ x=-24 \end{gathered}[/tex]

the value of x = -24
