Problem info

Sophomore

total =T= 240 students

V= 8 vans and B= 8 buses

Juniors

total=T=54 students

V=4 vans and B= 1 bus

Solution

Let v the numbers of kids in vans and b the number of kids in bus we can set up these equations:

[tex]8v+8b=240[/tex][tex]4v+b=54[/tex]

We can solve for b from the second equation and we got:

[tex]b=54-4v[/tex]

And we can replace at equation 1 and we got:

[tex]8v+8(54-4v)=240[/tex]

And we can solve for v and we got:

[tex]-24v=-192[/tex][tex]v=\frac{192}{24}=8[/tex]

And solving for b we got:

[tex]b=54-4(8)=22[/tex]

Each van with 8 kids

Each bus with 22 kids
