The formula to calculate speed is given as, distance over time, that is;

[tex]s=\frac{d}{t}[/tex]

For example,

(1) Johnson decides to go on a road trip and he gets in his car. He begins driving, and after 4 hours discovers that he has covered 320 kilometers. If he has been driving at a constant speed all the while, then calculate his speed in kilometers per hour.

To solve for the speed during his trip, we shall use the formula which is;

[tex]\begin{gathered} s=\frac{d}{t} \\ s=\text{speed,} \\ d=\text{distance covered} \\ t=\text{time taken} \\ \text{Therefore,} \\ s=\frac{320}{4} \\ s=80 \\ \text{His speed therefore is 80kmph, OR 80km/h} \\ \text{And this reads }^{\prime}80\operatorname{km}\text{ per hour'} \end{gathered}[/tex]
