Lateral Area of the Prism

The lateral area of a prism is the area of the vertical faces, not including the base or the top.

The formula to calculate the lateral area of a prism is:

[tex]A=P\cdot H[/tex]

Where P is the perimeter of the base and H is the height of the prism.

The base of the prism is a square of dimensions 5 cm by 5 cm, thus its perimeter is:

P = 4*5 cm = 20 cm

The height of the prism is H=7 cm, so the lateral area is:

[tex]A=20\operatorname{cm}\cdot7\operatorname{cm}=140\operatorname{cm}^2[/tex]

Lateral Area = 140 square cm
