When we name single ions, the endings are constant. For example, Iron (II) ion, which is an iron ion with a charge of +2.

But, when we have polyatomic ions sometimes we end the name with ion, but a lot of these compounds have endings in ate, ic, etc. For example, hydrogen phosphate, nitrate ion, sulfuric, etc.

Therefore, sometimes they have their endings changed in ionic names.
