Excuse Ms or Mr I'm having trouble with this problem. for the procedure do i set up my equation like this? 7x-10+4x-29=5x-9 or did i set it up wrong? could please guide me step by step on what to do?

The line BD is divided into two smaller segments by point C.
If you add those smaller segments, the result will be equal to the length of segment BD:
BD=BC+CD
Replace this expression with the given equaities and you'll be able to determine an equation:
[tex]\begin{gathered} BD=BC+CD \\ 7x-10=4x-29+5x-9 \end{gathered}[/tex]Next perform the calculations between all alike terms:
[tex]\begin{gathered} 7x-10=4x+5x-29-9 \\ 7x-10=9x-38 \end{gathered}[/tex]And rearrange them so that all x-related terms are on the left side and the other terms on the right side of the equation
[tex]\begin{gathered} 7x-9x=-38+10 \\ -2x=-28 \\ x=-\frac{28}{-2} \\ x=14 \end{gathered}[/tex]
