The solution (x, y) : (-3, 7)

Explanation:

GIven equations:

2x + 3y = 15 ....(1)

-2x - y = -1 ....(2)

Using elimination method:

To eliminate x, the coefficient of x need to be the same in both equations.

Both have 2 as coefficient. So we can eliminate

Add both equations to eliminate x:

2x + (-2x) + 3y + (-y) = 15 + (-1)

2x - 2x + 3y - y = 15 - 1

2y = 14

divide both sides by 2:

y = 14/2

y = 7

substitute for y in equation (1):

2x + 3(7) = 15

2x + 21 = 15

2x = 15 - 21

2x = -6

divide both sides by 2:

x = -6/2

x = -3

The solution (x, y) : (-3, 7)
