To answer this kind of question we use the following formula for the distance between two points ( (x₁,y₁), (x₂,y₂)):

[tex]d=\sqrt[]{(x_1-x_2)^2+(y_1-y_2)^2}.[/tex]

Substituting (x₁,y₁)=(-12,16), and (x₂,y₂)=(0,0) in the above formula we get:

[tex]d=\sqrt[]{(-12-0)^2+(16-0)^2}.[/tex]

Simplifying the above result we get:

[tex]d=\sqrt[]{144+256}=\sqrt[]{400}=20.[/tex]

Answer:

[tex]20.[/tex]
