In order to find the whole are we divide the figure in simpler figures.
We are going to find the area of each figure:
1. Triangle
2. Rectangle
3. Triangle
Then we find the total area by adding all the areas:
triangle 1 + rectangle + triangle 2
We know that the area of a triangle is found with its base and height:
We have that
area of a triangle = base · height /2
In this case, as we can see in the image, the height is
12m + 5m = 17 m
Then,
triangle 1 = 10m · 17m /2
triangle 1 = 85m²
We can see that the triangle 2 has the same measures of the triangle 1, then
triangle 2 = 85m²
We know that the area of a rectangle is found by the product of its sides:
area of a rectangle = side 1 x side 2
in this case:
side 1 = 35 m
side 2 = 12 m
then
rectangle = 420m²
As we said at the beggining:
area = triangle 1 + rectangle + triangle 2, then
area = 85m² + 420m² + 85m²
= 590m²
Answer: the area of the figure is 590m²
