The rate of the plane is basically the speed of the plane, the speed is given by:

[tex]v=\frac{d}{t}[/tex]

Where:

v = Speed

d = Distance

t = Time

So:

Against the wind:

[tex]\begin{gathered} v=\frac{1740}{3} \\ v=580\frac{\operatorname{km}}{h} \end{gathered}[/tex]

With the wind:

[tex]\begin{gathered} v=\frac{6720}{8} \\ v=840\frac{\operatorname{km}}{h} \end{gathered}[/tex]

The rate of the plane is:

(840+580)/2 = 710 km/h

The rate of the wind is:

(840-580)/2 = 130 km/h
